Zion National Park

Zion National Park

This was the third national park that we visited within Utah. A weekly pass for the park is $30 per car (as at October 2017). Because we were visiting so many national parks we decided to buy an annual pass at the first park we visited. This cost $80 and gained us entry to all national parks in the US for a year. At Zion you are unable to drive your car into certain areas of the park. They run…

Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon is located in Utah, not very close to anywhere really! There are a couple of hotels in the area which make it easy for a stopover. There are also some lodges and campsites available within the park itself. I must say I found this park breath taking. It’s hard to believe that all those Hoodoo’s (the odd shaped pillars) have been created by Mother Nature! Just stunning! Bryce is made up of many different canyons so again you…

Arches National Park, Utah

Arches National Park, Utah

Arches National Park is located in north Moab, Utah. Entry to the park costs $25 per car (at October 2017) and is open every day of the year. Before entering the park make sure you have plenty of water, sun screen and sun hat, it gets very hot and there isn’t much shelter outside of your car. As you take the leisurely drive through the park you come across a collection of arched rocks. Each area has a car park…

Denver to Aspen (road trip 2017 part 5)

Denver to Aspen (road trip 2017 part 5)

Arriving in Denver mid-morning, we dropped the car at the hotel and headed into to the city on the RTD (train). It is a about a 30 minute journey for $9 all day pass, taking us straight into Union Street Station. As we had pre-booked a tour of the Denver Rockies Baseball Stadium (Coors Field), we decided to head there to check out where we needed to go. Upon arrival we were met with really helpful and friendly staff. As…

Colorado Springs (Road Trip 2017 part 4)

Colorado Springs (Road Trip 2017 part 4)

Arriving in Colorado Springs I realised that this was a much larger city than I had thought. We arrived far too early to check into the hotel so we decided to explore. First we came across Red Rock Canyon. It’s an area to hike amidst lakes and (you guessed it) a canyon of red rocks! After a short easy hike we decided to move onto Garden of the Gods. This is a registered national landmark, free to enter and spectacular…

From Monument Valley to Colorado Springs (Road Trip 2017 Part 3)

From Monument Valley to Colorado Springs (Road Trip 2017 Part 3)

After our exhilarating early morning trip down Antelope Canyon we hit the road heading towards our overnight stop in Cortez, Colorado. I must say I was very excited to get going as today we would visit the iconic Monument Valley, the back drop from many hundreds of movies. I’m sure you have seen the roads leading to Monument Valley many times on your TV screen, very long and very straight. Flat land for miles with the odd large rock formation…

LOWER ANTELOPE CANYON – PAGE, ARIZONA. (ROAD TRIP 2017 PART 2)

LOWER ANTELOPE CANYON – PAGE, ARIZONA. (ROAD TRIP 2017 PART 2)

It was day 4 of our holiday when the 2017 road trip really got started. Our first drive took us from crazy Las Vegas out into the dessert towards Lake Powell and a little town called Page in Arizona for the night. The journey was around 280 miles and once we were off the busy roads of Las Vegas the drive was pretty simple on quite roads. As we approached Page we stopped off at Horseshoe Bend.  This is a…

A strange time to visit Las Vegas! [Road Trip 2017, part 1]

A strange time to visit Las Vegas! [Road Trip 2017, part 1]

After months of planning, our 2017 USA road trip is finally here. Our grand tour starts and finishes in the crazy city of Las Vegas. In between we drive through Arizona, a little of New Mexico, into Colorado to Denver and back through Utah. In order to get the trip underway we decided to take our first long-haul flight with British Airways. As usual we lucked out and got ‘Miss Disinterested’ as our flight attendant! Although nice and polite, she…

Auschwitz

Auschwitz

Prior to leaving for Krakow I pre booked a trip to Auschwitz, the former World War 2 concentration camp, through our hotel. Upon doing research this seemed to be very competitively priced at £32 per person. Our pick up was at 8.35am from the hotel, they arrived on time in a modern mini bus that seated 18 people. As we were the last pick up we headed straight out to the camp. The journey took about 1 hour 15 minutes…

Krakow, more then Auschwitz!

Krakow, more then Auschwitz!

After looking for a destination for our annual European weekend break with friends we settled on Krakow, Poland. Our hotel was the Liv’inn Aparthotel, a fabulously modern hotel with excellent staff who couldn’t do enough for you. After arriving on a damp and cool day in June, we decided to walk from the hotel into the main market square, this was around a 20 minute walk.   As I have visited very little of Eastern Europe I wasn’t sure what…
